This speech ought to be in front of every American. And every goddamn sell-out in congress, including Barack Obama, needs to hear it. In it’s entirety.
Justice Stephen Breyer, a US Supreme court justice, apparently sees the world not in conflict between nations, but rather between those who would use reason to solve problems and those who wish to do away with reason.
So, when put that way, there’s a low intensity conflict brewing here in the states, isn’t there? Between the netroots and the wingnuts…between atheists and the theists.
Of course, nothing is so black and white, but in this regard I’d say the whole world is kind of a two party system. Either you think its ok to believe something in the face of evidence to the contrary, and believe it so hard that you would do harm to other people for those beliefs, or you believe that real evidence is a necessity for belief, and that you can always work something out with other people so long as they are will to consider the evidence.
I’ve been reading a lot of pandagon recently. She’s got some freakin’ awesome posts, and given several recent and current viewpoints that I interact with, its a breath of fresh air. I want a girl who thinks about like this about overbearing fathers.
