Almost….there…!

Posted in Beer, House at 11:16 pm by qkslvrwolf

Right, so I finally got done with the painting and got furniture back in my rooms…the reclamation of the house can begin! I like my sparse furniture outlook…I just need 3 more chairs (2 to replace those ugly brown things and 1 more for the library, and I’ll pretty much be set. Roxor.

And last but not least, heres a shot of the homebrew.
and finally....BEER!

I didn’t post up when I cracked open the tap-a-keg for the batch, but suffice it to say it is tasty. And that has been confirmed by Coop, who helped me move the couch and the bookshelf. Tasty. So tasty that he wanted to come play next time I make some. Oh yeah, who’s the brewmaster?

Anyway…thats all for now, folks.

Beer! The first taste

Posted in Beer at 11:30 pm by qkslvrwolf

Right, so tonight, I broke into my first bottle of homebrew. This was the 3 liter pop bottle that I only got half full, so even if it totally sucked I wasn’t going to lose hope about the rest.

My initial impression was that it was too sweet and not nearly carbonated enough. However, as I dumped a whole bunch of extra priming sugar into it and it had almost 5 inches or more of headspace to fill, neither of these revelations is surprising. I’m very curious about the actual tap-a-draft kegs I have downstairs.

Now, what is interesting is that the more of this I drink the more I like it. It is growing on me..although I would like it to be carbonated. I think I’ll give the rest of the batch another week to carbonate before I break it out. Still, I think I’m going to brand this batch a success. Ohhh, yeah.

First Homebrew - Transfer to secondary fermenter

Posted in Beer at 9:26 pm by qkslvrwolf

So, this is my first homebrew. I brewed it from a kit I bought at Dave’s Homebrew Supply in Belleville. I think it was a “Brewer’s Best Robust Porter”, but I’m not sure.

I brewed it with dad while he was up helping with the house. Now, we did everything according to recipe, and it seems to have gone well, bubbling quite merrily for the days I was home. Unfortunately, when I left for my holiday celebrations, I left the air turned off (fortunately it didn’t get too cold, but it was still enough that I’m a bit worried about it getting going.

Anyway, here it is, transferring to the secondary.
Transferring my first porter to the carboy..

I have high hopes..I figure I’ll probably try it right before or after Candice leaves in january. It is to bad I can’t break it out with dad.

Here it is in its corner, taunting me.
Awaiting readiness

House again

So, we calculated out the amount of money it would cost to do the floors of the house ourselves, then got some estimates from handymen just for shits and giggles. When one of the handymen put in a proposal that was only a couple hundred more than I could DIY, I decided to go for it. So here is the partially sanded floors. Its getting pretty sweet.

Again, the pictures aren’t going to be too terribly shaped..I’m too damn lazy.

Also, Dad and I put up a “crescent curved” shower rod. Which is freaking awesome. You can’t see it from the pictures, but it means that you are not constantly brushing up against the curtain while you’re showering. Which is just nice. Plus it looks better.
Shower curtain is cool

So, thats what I’ve been up to.

Oh yeah. My Dad and I brewed some bee-ahz last night. Its a porter, so I’ve got high hopes for it. Its bubbling away quite merrily already. Mmmm, beer.
