So, last night I went to a concert (Fallout boy and others) with my friends Matt and Christa, which was a lot of fun, and then we drove over to Christa’s mother’s house to spend the night.
Her mother lives in deep Missouri, so I spent about 30 minutes just staring up at the sky and listening to the not-silence.
The next morning, after a leisurely breakfast of pancakes, eggs, and bacon, christa trotted out…A HORSE!
And then she let us ride Dusty for a bit, nearly bareback (just a cloth covering and reigns). It was a LOT of fun. So much more fun than trail horses. I wanna go back, so hopefully there’ll be another chance someday.
And xiles tonight, and then housework and measuring the roof tomorrow. Good times.

I don’t think he’ll ever enter back into politics. Certainly not this year, which probably means not in 2012, either.
But this is a fantastic article. Gore is growing, and I will certainly remember him as one of the great leaders of our time, one of the great Americans.
Speaking of which, I need to add him on myspace. ;-)

This is just too much fun not to post. An analysis of l337 from a fun, if slightly more technical aspect. Technical’s not right. Sociology? Anthropology? Not sure. Anyway, good stuff.

This post over at the long tail grabbed my attention whilst reading it on lunch-break.
I’ve already posted on this variety of thing, and I just want to mention that I while I agree with this:
The most obvious benefit under this system would go to retailers, who would no longer need massive warehouses to store movies.
I disagree with this:
But longer-term, the system could allow retailers to sell the “long tail” of video content that’s too obscure to give shelf space in your local Wal-Mart. (I’d love to mix and match old episodes of Quantum Leap, for instance.)
What’s going to happen? Long term (maybe that’s the problem “longer-term” vs “long term”) this isn’t going to help folks like walmart, its going to help little neighborhood stores that actually know you, know what you like, and can recommend ANYTHING to you and give it to you right then and there. I really don’t see, with modern technology, why you can’t have this sort of facility in the back of a shop.
Of course, the flip side of that is, any shop with that kind of service is going to need some pretty hefty bandwidth, and by the time that kind of bandwidth becomes available to a mom & pop, it’ll probably be available to consumers as well, meaning video content could just be downloaded at will…
Damn. Maybe this won’t help mom & pops, after all.
My long-tail of books opinion still stands, though. :-P
PS. I know I link Chris Anderson’s Long Tail site a lot, but its a concept that is very exciting to me, because of its implications across society. What are those implications you ask? Well, ask away, and I’ll answer, or I’ll try and spell it out in a post later…

I desperately need to implement a captcha. I am sick of all the spam that I’m getting, and the fact that I get way more visits from spam sites than from legitimate folks. Bah, humbug. It all gets caught by my filters, but DAMN, I’d like to be able to get a realistic picture of who is visiting my site for the purpose of, you know, READING it?
