Help me! I’ve been cracked!

Posted in qkslvrwolf.com at 9:45 pm by qkslvrwolf

Yeah, so someone cracked into my blog and now I have a goddamn javascript embedded that is sending people who do porn searches to my site. Of course, this happens when I’m in effing korea and I can’t take the time to sit down and FIX this from here. ARRRGH! Its driving me insane though, because I’m getting about 20 searches a day for random porn phrases that are finding MY BLOG…and I’m probably going to have to go back to an archvied version of EVERYTHING to get rid of this.

Bluehost isn’t exactly helping either. They said “oh, you’ve been exploited. Good luck with that.”

Thanks, assholes. You’re supposed to be the experts here.

GODDAMMIT!

As a side note, for the time-being, I deleted the wiki. It wasn’t getting used anyway, and a bunch of other people that have been exploited were using tiki-wiki. But theres also a bunch of people that were using wordpress, so I’m not sure which one it is.

Like I said, I’m probably going to have to blow away the whole goddamn blog and rebuild it from a backup, which I haven’t made in months. Sonuvabitch.

Goddammit!

By the way, if anyone knows anything about “getramis”, please, please, please let me know ASAP.

NPR, fighting madness with reason

Posted in Politics at 3:02 pm by qkslvrwolf

Note: the following post will not be scholarly, though I wish it were. If I’m wrong, I apologize, and ask for evidence to the contrary.

After World War I and World War II, I feel that there as a great outpouring of literature from both sides of the conflict describing the horrors of the conflict and humanizing the participants. All’s Quiet on the Western Front. Dulce Et Decorum Est. The books of Elie Wiesel. Long story short, I feel like after the wars, there was an opening up of culture and minds that allowed people to see that those horrible faceless monsters on the other side of the wire were human, just like themselves. They were not really others, not outsiders, but members of the same tribe.

In the face of the growing clammer from the Bush administration about the war, some news people are actually using their brains and remembering what happened the last time the Bush administration wanted to bomb someone. And they’re fighting back. My personal feeling, and this is not based on anything but empirical evidence, is that this is not instiutional yet. This is individual reporters with brains and memories who perhaps feel embarassed(1) about their role in the American people’s happy-go-lucky shoot-first-and-collect-flowers-later attitude.

Well, NPR today had what I think might be the most effective style of pieces to combat the Bush Administration attempt to hide all of Iran and all the Iranian people as a faceless horde behind the mask of one “evil leader”. They had a couple of pieces around noon 1300 today (in case you want to go look for them; their website sucks so badly that I can no longer stand to try and link to it. NPR FIX YOUR DAMN SITE AND MAKE IT EASY FOR BLOGGERS TO LINK IN TO!) that were attempting to show the humanity of the Iranian people. They talked of the worry of the Iranians that this posturing and saber rattling will come to war, they spoke of an Iranian-American who goes to Iran with American journalists, walks straight into the heart of the “death to america” rally’s, and TALKS to the people there…who say they are soldiers forced to do this, that they would rather go eat lunch, and that they’re embarrased to be there. There was a second piece who talked of a former Iranian revolutionary who is now a professor in the US after being sent here by his parents, and his trips back home to Iran and his fears for his mother.

I almost cried. The leadership of both our countries is trying to drag us into a war; why?

I’ll be honest. Islamic Fanaticism scares me even more than Christian fanaticism, probably because I’m less familiar with it and because the number of Christians I’ve seen who are willing to blow themselves up is smaller. (And this leads to: if you’re willing to blow yourself up with TNT, would you be willing to blow yourself up with a nuke if you got your hands on one?) But these are the fanatics. The majority of people are not fanatics, and even most of the fanatics, if they could be introduced to each others cultures would have their fanaticism drain away.

We just need to talk to them. We need to bring Iranian people to the United States, and send our own people there. We need to work to bring more internet to their country (if we have to have satellite internet in the country anyway, why not pay for a few guerilla internet connections for them?) Yes, Ahmadinejad is a tad crazy, but so is Bush. And it is BUSH that is likely to bomb first, simply because he has the power to do so.

I really hope we can avoid this one, folks. Because it is going to make the world a far worse place if we do.

1: I couldn’t find a clip of the part I wanted, so I just put the whole thing up. It’s the part where Colbert is riddiculing the corps for not being skeptical of the Bush Administration’s runnup to war: “Those were good times, as far as we knew.”

What he’s talking about, and what I keep seeing

Posted in Philosophy, Politics, web at 3:33 pm by qkslvrwolf

So I could’ve posted this up as linkspam, but it’s not just linkspam. Watch it through to the end, then come back.

This is what I always see in the potential of the web. This is what I see as the potential as the future. Because when it is understood, this brings the power of the sum of human knowledge to the fingertips of every human being with access to the web. It gives us hive mind capabilities combined with individual concentration and creativity. It is the hope for mankind that may manage to push us beyond the potential we also have to annihilate ourselves.

I don’t know that anyone else will see this in the video. But it resonated with me, resonated hard.

Anyone else find that?
