Day to day living

Posted in General at 7:29 pm by qkslvrwolf

So, I’ve been running around like crazy, setting up the house, doing my master’s stuff, cleaning up the house, work, yada yada.

Hers the quick update.

Saturday, went to a swing dance where john from martial art’s band was playing. The band was good, the swing dance was fun, although my introversion kicked in due to the combination of new place and new people. If I decide to go again, I’ll probably do better. Candice pointed out that I should’ve taken pictures. A good point. There were about 6 real swing crazy people, a dozen or two pretty good people, a bunch of people at about my level, and this old asian couple of was all abou the dance despite having no grace between them. They knew lots of stuff and danced well together. Awesome.

On the computer front, met a guy at work, Capt Jesse James who is interested in making some games, so we have a java idea ready to go..we’re going to meet next week to hammer out our requirements/vision document. Hopefully, I”ll be able to talk him into open sourceing it. On a semi-related note, I convinced Jeff from martial arts to let me do a prototype of the vision he has for his Shiyoto-Ryu Karate Federation, for mutual experience. So, between the two things, I ought to get some coding done one way or another. Also got some programs working under wine that weren’t available on linux, so one step closer to never booting windows again. I haven’t booted windows in at least two weeks now, and it feels good.

The master’s is going well..I got an form email from one of my profs letting me know I’m doing a damn good job, so that was nice. Candice continues to inspire me on the work-a-holic front, and I’ll get there eventually.

So thats life, right now.

Right, so I finally got done with the painting and got furniture back in my rooms…the reclamation of the house can begin! I like my sparse furniture outlook…I just need 3 more chairs (2 to replace those ugly brown things and 1 more for the library, and I’ll pretty much be set. Roxor.

Obligitory pictures:Front room, north side

Front room, south side

Library main shelves

Library seating and

And last but not least, heres a shot of the homebrew.
and finally....BEER!

I didn’t post up when I cracked open the tap-a-keg for the batch, but suffice it to say it is tasty. And that has been confirmed by Coop, who helped me move the couch and the bookshelf. Tasty. So tasty that he wanted to come play next time I make some. Oh yeah, who’s the brewmaster?

Anyway…thats all for now, folks.

Beer! The first taste

Posted in Beer at 11:30 pm by qkslvrwolf

Right, so tonight, I broke into my first bottle of homebrew. This was the 3 liter pop bottle that I only got half full, so even if it totally sucked I wasn’t going to lose hope about the rest.

My initial impression was that it was too sweet and not nearly carbonated enough. However, as I dumped a whole bunch of extra priming sugar into it and it had almost 5 inches or more of headspace to fill, neither of these revelations is surprising. I’m very curious about the actual tap-a-draft kegs I have downstairs.

Now, what is interesting is that the more of this I drink the more I like it. It is growing on me..although I would like it to be carbonated. I think I’ll give the rest of the batch another week to carbonate before I break it out. Still, I think I’m going to brand this batch a success. Ohhh, yeah.
