Keeping up with the odd man out.
So, this is my first homebrew. I brewed it from a kit I bought at Dave’s Homebrew Supply in Belleville. I think it was a “Brewer’s Best Robust Porter”, but I’m not sure.
I brewed it with dad while he was up helping with the house. Now, we did everything according to recipe, and it seems to have gone well, bubbling quite merrily for the days I was home. Unfortunately, when I left for my holiday celebrations, I left the air turned off (fortunately it didn’t get too cold, but it was still enough that I’m a bit worried about it getting going.
Anyway, here it is, transferring to the secondary.
.
I have high hopes..I figure I’ll probably try it right before or after Candice leaves in january. It is to bad I can’t break it out with dad.
Here it is in its corner, taunting me.
So, the floors are completely done, save for the smell of the polyurethane fading from the house (which, I fear, will take some time).
And they look, well, fantastic. :-)
My thanks to Ron Welzbacher, the man who finished my floors for a very reasonable price. Lend me a comment if you happen to be looking for someone to do your floors in the St. Loius area, and I’ll email you his contact info. He rocks. As does Barry of Bear Moon Studios, who recommended Ron.
Anyway, once again, and inelegant picture dump.
Ok, so those were the final sand before the first coat of polyurethane.
These next are the first coat of polyurethane.
Etc.
Now, finally, the finished product. :-D
Anyway, so the house looks great. I can’t wait to get my furniture back on it. :-D
More later..I’m going to go transfer some beer.
Ways in which I am not entirely stupid: During my grab of stuff to get me through the time I would be unable to use the vast majority of my house, I collected my computer, turned my wireless on (and set the password to something I knew again), and grabbed my camera.
Ways in which I am not entirely smart: I failed to grab the usb cable that allows me to get the pictures off my camera and onto my computer, and I drank a fair bit of pepsi at lunch despite having no way to use the restroom until this stuff dries.
Looking it up on the web, though, I may even be able to cross it before bedtime, even though I moved the air mattress and blankets and whatnot downstairs so that I could sleep without the bed.
Anyway, I’ll post the pictures up as soon as I can..tonight or tomorrow. Trust me, though. It looks absolutely fabulous.

So, we calculated out the amount of money it would cost to do the floors of the house ourselves, then got some estimates from handymen just for shits and giggles. When one of the handymen put in a proposal that was only a couple hundred more than I could DIY, I decided to go for it. So here is the partially sanded floors. Its getting pretty sweet.
Again, the pictures aren’t going to be too terribly shaped..I’m too damn lazy.
And, finally, the hall
Also, Dad and I put up a “crescent curved” shower rod. Which is freaking awesome. You can’t see it from the pictures, but it means that you are not constantly brushing up against the curtain while you’re showering. Which is just nice. Plus it looks better.
So, thats what I’ve been up to.
Oh yeah. My Dad and I brewed some bee-ahz last night. Its a porter, so I’ve got high hopes for it. Its bubbling away quite merrily already. Mmmm, beer.
