I have heard so many times from people who more or less worship the rich, want to make sure that they don’t get taxed to much, yada yada yada. So then, when the second richest man in America comes along and tells them that they’re getting screwed, what do they do? Make fun of him and say he doesn’t know what he’s talking about and doesn’t know what its like to be the little guy. Does that make any sense?

We are apart. We are drifting.
Through the memories, my mind is sifting.
Here my heart is ever lifting,
But then, we are apart.
The lifting fades, it drifts away,
as a foil, angled too steep to stay
soaring, and so sinks astray,
like the memories I cannot bear.
Forbearance comes, forbearance goes
my mind is wriggling, like my toes
in the sand, on the beach, where mystery knows
you and I were happy, together.
Together, as we belong,
our heads resting together with hearts song,
our hands clasped, mingled love so strong,
and so I miss you.
And the missing is making
my heart is aching
my mind is breaking
and I withdraw without you

I just got back from watching Serenity at a drive in movie theatre. Thats right. Old school, baby.
Anyway, I’ll spare you the review of the movie. Suffice to say, I thought it was freaking awesome. I’ve only ever seen a couple of episodes of Firefly, but they had one of the more memorable quotes that I’ve ever heard. By which I mean that I actually remembered it without having to go back and hear it again.
“No power in the ‘verse can stop me”.
As for the drive in movie theatre experience. Well, that I’ll review. Mainly because Alcarwen is going to want to know, and will likely read this tonight. Which is good, because as often as I actually blog, no one else will probably read it at all. :-)
Anyway. So, I arrived that the drive in, not knowing what to expect. The…parking lot? seating area? was completely dark, which made it a bit difficult to figure out where I was going. So I cruised around a bit until I found a spot where I could barely see the main screen behind the one Serenity was going to be on, then found my spot by a small white post and rolled my window down.
Low and behold, beside me there was no speaker. Instead, a small white placard read “101.9″.
So I turned my radio on and turned it to that station, then focused my attention on the screen.
What I saw, I believed at first was a commercial for something else. There was oldies music playing in the background while a girl was asking questions in a class. It became apparent that this was the beginning o f the movie (which, by my clock, started early, and since my clock is (according to the atomic clock) about thirty seconds fast, this is annoying.
What was more annoying was that the background music they had been playing before the movie started was still playing. Making it extremely difficult to tell what they were saying.
I was getting very irratated. Especially because I thought that I was just picking up a radio station and that it would continue throughout the movie.
Fortunately, it did not.
So then I settled in. At first I didn’t like the way the sound came through my speakers. And I really didn’t like the asshole behind me who didn’t turn his fucking lights off for about 15 minutes of the beginning.
But as I was drawn into the movie, the sound seemed to improve (I don’t know if I just got used to it or they whacked their transmitor), the asshole behind me shut off hist lights, and there in my own little world, I was able to watch the movie in comfort and happiness.
A lot of people had brought lawn chairs, which as it gets cooler (and the bugs die) would be freaking awesome. As long as you had a radio you could listen to the movie on from outside of the car. Car speakers just wouldn’t cut it.
And you couldn’t always see the movie so well, which was a bit annoying, especially with a special effects movie like this one.
But all in all, if I’m going to go see a movie by myself, this is the way to go. I’ll probably stick to the Lincoln when I’m not by myself, though. But then, this one also rocks becuase its so close to my house. Took me 3 minutes to get there. Hooah.
Anyway, thats all folks. Now I have to go make a new category to file this under.

So I don’t play with computers - in a serious way - nearly enough. Part of this is the fact that I don’t seem to have much spare time. Part of the lack of spare time, however, has to do with the fact that I pick up and play video games on a regular basis. Which isn’t so smart.
Regardless. Tonight I am upgrading my linux installs on both my desktop (which I haven’t even turned on in months) and on my laptop.
I tried, originally, to upgrade the one on my laptop without reinstalling. Unfortunately, that jacked up and wouldn’t even let me type at the login prompt. So I, lazy that I am, just downloaded the new version under windows, burned it, and am now watching it configure packages and praying that it will let me type.
I keep reading good things about it. Everyone says that it catches and uses all sorts of things hardware wise that have never been automatically caught before. So I have fairly high hopes that maybe it will actually pick up my wireless driver on my laptop. That would be miracle, and might actually cause me to use my linux instead of my windows for most things. If I got that, flash (for amd-64) and dvds/mp3s working, I could pretty much drop windows except for when I’m gaming.
And even that, if I modify my games a bit, has promise. I’m tempted to try installing cedega and try and play diablo 2 LoD/dod:source/ maybe WoW. Not that I want to pay $10 a month for gaming, but I know of a number of people tha thave been successful getting WoW to work, its a cool game, and it woudl hoepfully sooth the gaming fix. And then I could blow away my windows, which I think would be very good for me.
That, and maybe eventually actually updating my wordpress theme. :-)
Anyway…thats that.
Ciao.

So I was tagged by Alcarwen, so here goes.

Ted was glad that he’d come out of the office today. Now, standing in the sun, his sunglasses reflecting afternoon sun for almost the first time since he’d passed the bar, he couldn’t imagine why he hadn’t done this before.
It all seemed so natural. Here he was, chatting up some tall atheletic guys’ wife, drinking a beer, and laughing. Laughing without needing to ask himself later whether he was just playing along with the client’s joke because its what he had to do.
This is who I am, he thought. This is who I want to be, where I want to be. Why would I want to move to some big town and become some corporate lawyer clone? My god! I’ve become so anal retentive I actually pressed and starched my t-shirt before coming out here!
Right then, laughing at Nancy’s stories of her kids, he decided. No more. Ted was going to keep being a lawyer, but his time as an office drone was done. There was so much life to be had, right here in small town America. Ted, standing in the warm fall sun, floating on the spiced, heady scent of dozens of chilis cooking and the sweet musical laughter of children, had found himself again.
James and Phil, consider yourself tagged.
