.XXX: The new home for porn? – ZDNet UK Comment

Unfortunately, I’m not really feeling too funny, although this well deserves something to be said….anyone? No? Oh well.

Anyway, this is a great idea, though. I mean, there are going to be holdouts that make their money off of the mistyping of more legitimate names (whitehouse.com, anyone?), but for the most part, I think most porn sites would be well served by this. Its not like they tend to be apologetic about what they do, so why not? Its a great idea.

    So . . . if current porn peddlers capitalize on regular business tags (.com, .net, .biz, etc.) would regular businesses be allowed to register .xxx names and capitalize on the reverse of what porn is doing now? E.g. you visit http://www.nakedchickseatingpie.xxx and it takes you to a page full of “reduce your credit card debt” ads.

    I think it should work both ways. And certainly, nothing should be mandatory.

    I would think so….however, I don’t really see anyone except for porn sites and maybe phishers using the xxx level domain. I mean, yeah, lets be honest, do phishers really need to xxx on the end of their websites to get people to come give htem paypal accounts? probably not.
