So, ASBC was a bitch. Mainly because of the people I was having to work with. Thats all good, however, because I got to spend Chritmas with AC. Well, thats not entirely true. I spent the weekend after ASBC with AC, the week thereafter half-assing work (quoth my boss the first time he saw me on Wednesday: “Why are you here…?”), and then I spent Christmas weekend with family back in Kansas.
Not to much interesting going on there…Grandpa thought that our family was unique and interesting because “we can talk about politics without coming to blows”. This is amusing, because the only reason we can do so is because my particular branch of the family avoids talking about politics like the plague, unless we’re all there to gang up, and then very politely. I was doing a very good job staying out the conversation until my grandad tried to accuse my dad of “blaming our troops”, at which point I jumped in and very politely pointed out that nobody was saying anything bad about the troops…just about the leadership decision to send the troops where they got sent.
As an interesting sidenote, the Bush administration happily and sneakily opened every single goddamn national forest to corporate interests to do whatever they want…and did this during a week when no one was in Washington to complain during the 5 day complaint period. Asshole.
I’m too tired and dinner is cooking, so I’m not going to bother to back that up with a citation or a link. Sorry. I’m sure any interested parties can find it on their own.
Anyway, AC is here, life is perfect. We’re cooking the last course of a 2 course dinner right now…steak. We had a perfect Christmas morning, with far more presents than any two people have any real right to open, and partaking of my wireless internet. Whoops. Asparagus got a little bit charred. Whoopsies. Oh well.
Anyhoo, happy holidays and a Merry New Year to everyone out there who reads this.

Ok, so this is in danger of being a rant; a rant that might be characterized as “whiny” on top of that.
So, that being said.
Item 1 of the rant is the people in my…well, for the sake of not being purged by bush loyalists, I’ll call them my class.
My class is like being back in high school. I’m at a professional education course back in the lovely, lovely montgomery alabama. I get to sit (or run) all day with a bunch of assholes who really never should’ve gone past high school.
On the first day, they came in, deciding that they wanted to do as little as possible. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m all about a litle good natured slacking, but in my experience, its actually easier and more entertaining to actually work hard on your work….at least during the hours of the day. I foolishly (before I knew what I was getting myself into) volunteered to be team lead. Whoops. Big freakin’ mistake, that was. So now it was my job (until I gave up, and I admit that I gave up) to try and motivate this bunch of self-required losers, as well as to set goals and share in all the punishment that would befall them.
Well, in my flight was an old comrade of mine, one Anton, who decided that he was going to make sure that no one would work hard enough to make him look bad. So, with his booming voice, his slacker/marine charm, and his readiness to mercilessly mock any who dared resist him, he took over the flight in a matter of days. Unfortunely, he took it over in reality only, not in name.
Anyway, I could spend hours going over the crap these fools pull, all the while making themselves believe that they are the victims in any event, though they have a self-professed desire to do as poorly as humanly possible in everything they do, so that they can get back to their rooms that much sooner to drink beer. (Of course, far be it from me to decry beer).
On of my favorite notes is that my entire class is convinced that the only important cause of the civil war is states rights. Now, just because I am who I am and I like to argue, I looked it up, just to make sure I remembered things more accurately than they did. I did. (You can read that article and still come up with the conclusion that it was states rights and only states rights that mattered in the civil war. But thats kind of like saying the only reason WWII started was only started because Hitler was a meglomanical prick. True in a very limited sense, but not nearly good enough for anyone who 1) has a critical (functioning) mind or 2) wants to learn useful things from history.
So anyway, dealing with them is fun, especially when an authority figure outside our regular authority comes in and accuses them of lack of motivation!…which starts fights that I have to watch. Sigh.
Anyway.
Then theres the “motivational speaker” we had today.
Unfortunately, as in most instances, I’ve already bitched about it enough to defuse my anger.
However, he spew cliches like some kind of republican propoganda machine, spouted off about reading the bible every day, believed that women are subservient, and you should treat them like fragile china. Oh yeah. And that he couldn’t cuss because there were women in the room. Women who are supposed to be “warriors” according to our culture, but they can’t hear a fucking cussword? Give me a break. That, and he gave the opinion that any woman who wouldn’t want to be treated like an inferior was obviously too ugly and mean to ever get a man interested in her. Including superiors.
Oh, it was painful. I wanted to scream and leave. But I couldn’t. A hole hour of my life, lost to that guy.
Arrrgh…
Professional Education ent so cool. Sigh.
